Don't just do something, sit there!

One of the things I've heard several pundits reminding us of in the last few days is a very cogent point about how Ronald Reagan handled the ever-escalating attacks on him by the MSM. Although mild by today's vituperative standards, they were a constant reminder that the liberal media hated RWR as much then as they hate GWB now. And when conservatives today ask "Why isn't Bush fighting back?" the reply has been "He is; he's doing the same thing Reagan did in the '80s... nothing."

The news media and pundits back then were all the time saying that Reagan was a fuzzy-minded dreamer, who had Nancy telling him what to do. Today, Those People are saying that Bush is a fuzzy-minded chimp, who needs Rove to tell him what to do. Same song; different stanza. So, if they're going to keep playing their same tired tune, Bush should respond in the same fashion Reagan did when the band struck up 2½ decades ago. Let 'em sing their little song, and don't dignify the lyrics with a reply.

Exactly! He would be dignifying their noise if he responded.
Good post.

Nice piece, but now I'm hearing that he is preparing to reply
Happy Veteran's day!

Possum, great point, but he gave them a little back today in his speech, like pointing out that the American military fighting overseas should wonder if they've lost the support of the legislators who voted to send them there. I liked that part.

Eloquent piece,my friend. There's a big difference between offense and defense! Ronaldus Magnus was wonderful at taking his message to the people. Dubya, tho not a great orator, is never better than when he's taking his message to us! I just heard parts of his speech and it was GREAT! ;o)

Great post my friend. The Dim-o-crap responses to Dubya's speech has been so much BS! They are actually acusing him of "politicising" (sp) the war! What gall, what hypocracy, what nerve, what....BS!

Went to a Vet Day luncheon. Heard the Commander of Lima Co. speak. Marine Major...basic points, don't believe what the press reports (duh) and our Marines and soldiers are doing a fine job and the morale is high.

Good to be around men like that...of course the rest of us there were from WWII, Vietnam, etc. Bunch of old farts dreaming of the good ol' days.

Regards. KC

As has been said already, to respond would be tantamount to recognizing the whining voice of the outmoded (formerly known as "mainstream") media as legitimate...and it ain't.

I have to respectfully disagree, here. I feel it is because of the non-response to much of these untruths that have become standard "news" to the MSM, that the polls show such a distrust of Bush. If he would respond once in awhile with solid facts that refute some of these Dem talking points, maybe that would change.

It particularly galls me when I hear talking heads state as a fact that there were no WMD in Iraq and that the Bush Administration "equated" Iraq with 9/11. Answer these untruths with,

-we don't know what was in Iraq when we invaded, but plenty of WMDs were found
-Bush and several high-ranking officials specifically stated during the run-up to war that there was no evidence that Hussein was connected to 9/11

I have seen some officials this past week offering the second refutation but I want to hear them offer the first and really shut these people up!

As frustrating as it can be sometimes to see him not fight back, it just reinforces for me what a stand-up guy he is. He won't lower himself to their tactics.

Remember Clinton who responded to every critisism with spin, distraction and personal attacks? I heard him on a talk show about a year ago saying that he had to respond or hit back. It was a total distraction for his presidency. He was more interested in looking good and leaving a great legacy for history than making hard decisions and LEADING the country. What a slimeball.

Ditto on the great artwork.

What really worries me are the scumbag Republicans, who are using this perceived weakness as a time to stab Bush in the back. They are worse than the Dims . Why, no matter how low Clinton sunk ,did the Dims lock arms and stand shoulder to shoulder to protect him ,even if they had to commit perjury? The minute the MSM can convince a few people that Bush's poll numbers are down , the RINO's desert Bush Like Rats. I actually heard one of them say last night that "maybe it is time to cut our losses in Iraq" Cut and run he meant . You can bet if that happens , way more than 2000 Americans will die.

Sorry Possum, but I have to agree with Beerme. I think that GW ought to reply WITH FORCE! Those idjits in Congress and in the LSM are just using Bush's silence to advance their own agenda. I truly believe that if Bush went on the offensive with GOOD stuff, that the Dims and Libs and RINOs would be truly "cowed". GWB won the election. Why? Because he had a story to tell, and he told it. Silence does nobody but the opposition any good.
